AfricTivistes Launches the African Election Civic Tech Fund
AfricTivistes has unveiled the African Election Civic Tech Fund, a €175,000 initiative supporting civic technology projects that strengthen electoral transparency and citizen participation across the African continent.
Coverage Area
The fund targets 14 countries: Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Senegal, Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Chad, Cameroon, Mauritania, Niger, Mali, and Togo.
Context and Background
The initiative responds to findings from AfricTivistes' AYIM study and Soobu mapping initiative, which identified a critical lack of financial and technical support for civic technology projects. With election-related violence affecting more than 50% of sub-Saharan African elections since 1990, this fund addresses a strategic gap in democratic innovation.

- Targets: young people aged 18–35 organized in groups, associations, or registered startups
- Priority given to women-led initiatives
